Windows Movie Maker Trouble?

I am trying to make a movie trailer, in windows movie maker. I have splited and taken certain parts of a movie and i have adjusted the sequence and i have added sound. When a play the movie before publishing, it gets stuck at a random point and the video gets stuck but the audio plays just fine. So i thought that i should publish it and check it. But after publishing , when i play it then the movie appears as a green box with only a marginal section at the top playing the movie and also the video gets stuck and the audio goes on playing. Is there a solution or any alternative software that could be used?
