Is the safety -disengaged- when the safety switch is horizontal like the slide on a semiautomatic?
i missed the"bb gun" part at first-i was going to argue that you do NOT have a glock 18 and also the fact that glock doesnt have an external safty(except the trigger-on a glock 18 the lever on the back of the slide is for semi auto or full auto) lol-it wont hurt "dry firing" a bb gun,dry firing real guns is bad because you can wear out the spring and the fireing pin embly-its ok to dry fire a bb gun-just make sure your outdoors with it unloaded and pointed in a safe direction(not at your friend head lol) but to answer you,yes most guns are in the "fire" position when the safty lever is parrelel with the barrel/slide-"safe" is usually up towards the top of the gun-also a bb gun should be labeled by "safe" or "fire" or at least have a red dot showing you when your safety is in use ;)
